The Axiom of Choice is a great band mixing traditional Persian (Iranian) and eastern type music with the flavor of western new age music. The two albums that followed this album are even better than this one, in my mind. I saw Mamak Khadem (band’s vocalist) at a Persian New Year festival in the Smithsonian last month and she mentioned that she has not been doing much work with the band lately since they have gone toward more electronic type music which was news to me. Anyway, her new solo album is great.

MIDI Controller or a Synth?
I've been meaning to compose and play with my friends for a while now. The time has come and I face the difficult decision of getting a MIDI controller or a synth.I'm mostly aware of the difference between the two.Basically you need an external module (synth rack/computer) to make any sounds with a MIDI controller, and for a Synth, it's unnecessary.I've been playing Piano for 9 years, so I'm relatively good at the piano and I am unsure how I should go about in choosing keys. 61 keys + is a must for me.My Axiom Pro ableton budget is around 700-800 dollars. For this amount of money, I know I can get a fairly good MIDI controller, but a pretty bad Synth. How should I go about? Some MIDI controllers I'm interested in:AKAI MPK61Novation SL MK2Novation X-Station 61M-Audio Axiom/Axiom Pro 61Some budget synths I'm interested in:Yamaha MM6Korg X50Roland Juno-DiI'm not too interested in buying 2nd hand keyboards. I've had bad experiences shopping on eBay and I'm not too keen of the fact that my keyboard is covered with the sweat, oil, food, maybe even tears of previous owners. Is there a big difference between the types of sounds they make? Can I still get accurate acoustic instruments and synthy electro sounds on a MIDI controller through use of a program such as ... say... Reason 4... or Ableton Live?I almost decided to get the X-Station, but then realized that although it can be played as a synth, it has no "realistic instrument" patches, which is a big turn off for me. I think it's too much centered on synthy sounds. Please also suggest some good keyboards I might be interested in.
