When Reel Big Fish parted ways with Jive records, I can safely say it was for the best. This is easily a highlight of the bands career, containing everything that is great about the band on 2 cds and a live dvd. Live albums peaked in the 70’s with fine record like Frampton Comes Alive! (25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) or Alive!, in which bands and artists combined best takes and careful manipulation of the audio to give the at home listener the best concert recreation experience. Now, this album hardly pushes the format forward, but is in fact a lasting tribute to the advances that came before it, also coupled with what is a great stand-up performance by our two hilarious vocalists.
All and all, this is a must have for fans of ska, Reel Big Fish, and anyone who wants to have a good time.
Can you interpret this dream about I had?
From what I remember, I was in a large university lecture theatre (I knew I was at a university in the dream, but it did not feel like the same university that I go to) and all the foldable chairs were out in front, and we were watching some sort of documentary movie on the big lecture screen. When watching the movie, I remember that it was like some animal documentary about stray/ferral animals, and they were interviewing the keeper of what looked like a pound for these ferral animals. There was a small outdoor enclosure with a white dog that had light brown patches, and it looked like its mouth was tied to a fishing line, which was tied to the door of its enclosure. When the pound keeper opened the door to the enclosure, it tugged on the dogs mouth and made him move forward. Big Fish audio Then the pound keeper was calling the dogs name repeatedly, and the dog's name was the same as my name! When the movie finished (it had other weird stuff in it that I can't really describe/remember) I walked out of the theatre with my friend (that I know who is a real person, like he went to class with me that day or something), and I remember leaving the theatre without my shoes. My friend thought that he had them, but I insisted that we go back to the theatre and look for my shoes. We ran back through some hallways, and kept trying to get the door open again to the theatre, I ended up ringing a bell at the entrance and after repeated attempts the door was opened for us, at that point they were packing up the chairs, and there were people's shoes across the floor everywhere, I kept looking for them and then I woke up while I was still looking for them in the dream. It is strange because today because there were some real life syncronicities to the dream, like the dream predicted these events to occur!1) I made a joke about the "chocolate isnt good for dogs" phrase that the kid says in that oreo commercial after my friend told me to say it on the p.a. system at work as a joke (different friend to the dream).2) That night I went to my friends warehouse to look for some audio visual gear, and I just about found what I wanted to get. His last name (and business name) has the word "foot" in it.3) We drove to the gas station later on and I had to ring the bell to the door of the gas station many times before the attendant came and opened it for me to get inside. Please excuse the bad grammar, I would edit my question if I could!

Reel Big Fish sounds much better live than in the studio. Also, 30+ of Reel Big Fish’s greatest songs in one album is a steal.

Oh ’tis true. If that line from this album doesn’t sum up this band perfectly. I’ve listened to all the RBF studio albums but have never once seen/heard them live either in person or on an album. Listening to ‘S.R.’ had to be the highlight of the album for me–driving down the road laughing and giddy with anticipation while other drivers probably stared at me in minor puzzlement.
The energy is amazing here, and the set list is a nice cross-section of the albums, plus some covers and improvisations. There definitely is a lot of foul-mouthed-ness, but not unexpected as these guys have never made any overtures at being anything less than raw, unbridled, fun-loving, turn-our-pain-into-rocking-fun-tunes musicians. Can’t wait to see them live in person now.

This is Reel Big Fish at the top of their performance. They sound as great as in studio, they joke all the time and have an incredible contact with the audience. They’re funny and professional. Highly recommended if you are a fan or even if you like listening to funny dancing music.

At 35 tracks, ‘Our Live Album…’ is more than just a live album; it’s practically the definitive collection of Reel Big Fish’s greatest hits. In between the vulgar, arrogant, and generally hilarious banter, even a complete stranger to RBF is sure to find plenty of songs to enjoy over and over. The album sounds great, seamlessly integrating recordings from a half-dozen or so live shows. While this allows the band to create a “best of” collection of “Suburban Rhythm” versions, it also causes the who experience to run a little long. And when the DVD documents the band dubbing guitar and horns right over the original live recordings, you have to wonder how close to an actual RBF show the whole thing actually sounds.
Standout tracks: Beer, Take On Me, S.R. (The Many Versions Of)

I have 4 RBF albums and this one, in my opinion, is the best. It has a couple of decent songs, but for the most part is nothing special. If your looking for some good 3rd wave ska, buy some Streetlight Manifesto, Mustard Plug, or even some Subb.

this is by far the best cd reel big fish has made. there is not a song that i don’t like on here. reel big fish can always cheer me up with their uptempo popska. this album ranges from the funny “she has a girlfriend now”, to a little aggressive “skatanic”, to just plain catchy “sellout” and “trendy.” the only people who i know that don’t enjoy this album, don’t like this kind of music.

Of all the Third Wave Ska bands, I firmly believe that Reel Big Fish was, and still is, the best, in addition to being one of the few still remaining, and continuously active, of the Third Wave acts.
Turn the Radio Off was the second, and in some ways the best, of their studio albums. “Sell Out” may be their “one hit wonder” as far as the masses are concerned, but that’s only because it was their first single. The lowest common denominator effect is widely known in popular music (Limp Bizkit, anyone?) but RBF is far more than that, and Turn the Radio Off is far more than that one song. Sell Out isn’t even the best from the album. I’d have to say that Beer holds that honor, and it is in fact an opinion that Aaron Barrett holds himself; as his statement in an interview once, “Someday I’ll write a song better than Beer”, clearly shows.
Oh, if only Beer had had a video, then things may have been different!
To anyone who has never seen RBF at a live show, do yourself a favor and go see them! Reel Big Fish puts on one of the best, if not the best, live shows of any active band. Fortunately for everyone, RBF will be playing theentire08 Warped Tour, coming to a city near you. So go see them!
Turn the Radio Off is a beautiful, fun, sarcastic album, and introduces many of the bands themes, from the title itself (later to be the name of an acerbic song about the mindless acceptance of whatever plays on the radio instead of using your own judgment and listening to music you picked yourself) to angry, sarcastic songs about the recording industry, hidden beneath the surface of a seemingly happy, fun-filled song, to RBF’s many songs about failed romances.
In fact, that same anger hidden behind happiness is one of the hallmarks of Reel Big Fish. One may be tricked into believing that RBF’s music is thoughtless, happy nothings, but it is full of emotion and anger, polished with a glaze of quick beats, skankadelic horns, and amazing guitar. But just listen to the aforementioned Turn the Radio Off (song) from the album We’reNot Happy Til Your Not Happy, and listen to the words, and anyone can feel the anger. And it’s a good anger, full of punk sensibility, calling for all to think for yourselves and not take whatever is given to you lying down.
To put it simply, Reel Big Fish rocks, but we are still left with trhe question: Why Do They Rock So Hard?
A question that may never be answered, but if you listen to them you’ll understand the meaning of the question.

Our Live Album Is Better Than Your Live Album
Buy this instead
As previously mentioned, Jive Records released this to get a few extra dollars out of Reel Big Fish’s work. The band does not receive any financial compensation for this album.
A much better investment is their live album. Reel Big Fish is amazing live, and this album has plenty more tracks for a few extra dollars. Better yet, the band actually receives money when you buy “Our Live Album Is Better Than Your Live Album”
If you want an excellent collection of Reel Big Fish songs, again, get the live album.

Just download it or borrow it from a friend…Jive really screwed them over, and they should not profit from this
