Yeah, onboard sound card is horrible. You should upgrade to a Creative sound card. Using a PCI sound card is also more professional since you can record the computer audio in exact quality.

Go to Dell’s web site @ http://dell.com and search for your computer there and get the right drivers and while you are there you may want to check for updates on your video, motherboard etc. Hope this helps, Roy.

Check your video card. Check also the driver you have installed. You may get not right one. You can try to use other PCI slot.

The only time moving from an integrated sound card to an offboard sound card will make a difference is when you’re dealing with the quality of components and capabilities. Moving from a basic 2-channel sound card to a 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 surround sound is one way, although more and more onboard sound cards are offering surround in one way or another. The most compelling reason to change from onboard to offboard is when you’re doing music production on your PC and want a better recording preamp and higher quality ADC (analog to digital converter) and DAC (digital to analog converter). This gives you better recording and playback with fewer recording, mixing, and playback errors caused by cheap components. Most basic, generic sound cards are good enough for games, movies, and listening to music, but when you’re making music you’ll want higher signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) for recording and playback, things that are better achieved in more expensive offboard cards.

as the screwless system is part of the case, you cant really change yours around, the only thing you can do is to use a slightly larger screw which will fit in the stripped screw hole

hello,if you can here the sound by plug in the ear phone or speaker than there is no damage in it.but you also need to make sure its properly inserted into the pci slot so open the cabinet and fix it first so it wont move any more. Also you can check in device manager that is there any conflict on that device.Path for Device manager :- Right click on My computer icon, Properties , Hardware Tab, Device Manager. Where you can see all hardware. Thanks
