Unfortunately since version 6 is not very “out-dated” yet most of the new plugin versions still support it. So at this point no one really has a reason to get rid of a plugin cheap because they probably qualified for a cheap or free upgrade to the PT version 7 of the plugin. As for i-Lok on PT 6 some new plugins will require i-lok and some will still use serial numbers you just need to check the specific plugin.A tip for you if you want to use some really nice plugs on a project but don’t have alot of cash on hand is to rent plugins from the digidesign website. You will need an i-lok but it can really help your project and save you a bundle.

a better option than ending running processes is to trim your startups so that there is less stuff running on your pc to begin with. to do this go to start-> run -> msconfigthen go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups to check what can be removed. Bear in mind that the results are case sensitive. In this way when your machine starts less resources will be used so you don’t have to kill processes, which can lead to your pc session being unstable. also, check your startup folder in program files, and, if you have access, the startup foleder for ‘all users’ on the pc.

You should be able to buy an upgrade for Pro Tools which won’t make your G4 any faster but will/should run on your current version of OS X – just check version compatibility before you buy it.
