What's the best USB audio interface for recording with Vista operating system?
I liked the PreSonus Audiobox audiobox Usb USB but after a little research I realized that people struggled to get it to work with Vista. I don't want to go through that. Did PreSonus resolve this issue? Are their any better suggestions?

Download and reinstall the sound driver. You will find it on the pc mfgs website support area

I would suggest to avoid USB audio interfaces if you can. Try going with Firewire instead. USB is a bit slow when it comes to recording, and sometimes you will find laggy issues. Learn more about this and other recording topics at http://www.audioneeds.com

Tapco Link is pretty good for the price. I’ve had no problems with it and Vista. Plus Tracktion is a great piece of software.Tapco Link $150http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LinkUSBBut honestly I’d shell out the extra $ for a firewire interface. The faster speeds causes less latency, which gives you higher quality. Either the Tapco Link Firewire ($200) the PreSonus Firebox ($300) or the TC Helicon Konneckt Live ($400).

you really need to try and provide us with as much info as you can when asking a broad question like this. This is similar to saying your vehicle is making a noise, but we don’t know what you drive and we can’t see it.However, if you don’t know what you’re doing, then that’s another story. First off, upgrade to FL 9, because it is free (provided you aren’t using pirated software). Then set the input of one of your mixer (F9) tracks to be the input on your presonus that the guitar is plugged into. For example, input one on the presonus is the input set for mixer track one in FL Studio. Now insert an instance of Guitar Rig as an effect on that mixer track. It’s the 8 horizontal bars on the right in the mixer window (F9). Make sure that in the audio settings of FL Studio (F10) you have your audio device set as the presonus. Most programs won’t allow two interfaces at once, so don’t try using your guitar stomp box as the interface. As always make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your software from NI. If it’s a problem of you completely not knowing how to use your software, you’re going to need to check out this using Guitar rig in FL Studio post below. Otherwise contact NI.Cheers

Like yourself I too recently made the transition to Mac after being PC all my life. The Mac should begin the installation process as soon as it begins, Macs have been known to have poor quality disc drives but other than that the only advice I can give is to make sure you received the OS version. Good luck.

I have used an Audio-technica ATM33a, it is inexpensive and a good all-round condenser – you can also put AA batteries in if you don’t have phantom power:http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/DIY/vocal.phpThe link above shows how I connected it to my PC without using a USB interface.Other mics to consider:AKG C1000AKG C414B

Go to the preferences or setting of Cubase, from there make sure you enable the audio driver for the Audiobox interface. The computer’s sound card will not be responsible for your recording but the Audiobox will, so make sure you enable in the settings area, and select when you are choosing your input device.

A good way around this is to use a mic instead of going direct to the USB interface. Connect a mic to the XLR mic input on the interface and use that to mic your amp:http://www.zzounds.com/item–MSEMXLV67GPut the mic right in front of the amp – you’ll probably get a more real sounding recording.

Hey Spoiled. Midi is commonly used to connect certain digital instrumstuments to a computer like a Keyboard. Check this link for a good example.http://www.midipage.nl/uk_midi_aansl_1.htmlIt allows you to compose music on the computer and play it through the Keyboard, or play on the keyboard recording a musical document that you can later edit note by note or instrument by instrument depending on what “voice” you use in your composition.Firewire is a connection for your computer similar to USB. It was developed by Apple and is popular in Musical and Video production. It also may be possible that the “other” kit you refer to has a port that would allow you to plug in a firewaire device as a source for recording.Be sure to determine what connection the muical kit you purchase needs to plug in to your computer. If it requires Firewire (called IEEE1394) be sure your PC has it.The kit you linked to uses USB which is common enough.I tried to keep this simple. Hope this helps. Good Luck.Mike

you don’t need them to RECORD, but you do need them to get an accurate sound for mixing your audio for playback on other devices. the better the monitor, the truer the sound. also the higher quality of your interface the better.
